Please doublecheck that "Wassup recording" is enabled in "Wassup-Options"=>"Statistics Recording" tab.

If that is not the problem, then your blog is probably completely cached as HTML+javascript. Wordpress and PHP are no longer rendered your pages on-the-fly. If you did not install a caching plugin, then your ISP must have done so. You will need to talk to them about undoing this.

FYI. To check for caching, look for Wassup's comment tag in the page footer in "view source". It has a timestamp. If that timestamp does not change after you reload the page, then your blog is cached.

Hi Ariel,
The gibberish is caused by a character-set discrepancy between your browser, Wordpress and/or MySQL.

To isolate and fix this problem, we need to see the character-set defined in Wordpress, MySQL and your browser. Please copy and paste here, the character-set and language information shown in the Wassup screen: "Wassup-Options"=>"Manage Files& Database" tab. Ex:

WassUp Table Charset/collation: utf8_general_ci

WordPress Character set: UTF-8

WordPress Language: en-US

MySQL Charset/collation: utf8_general_ci

Then, go to "view source" on the page where this gibberish displays and copy and paste here, the "context-type" meta tags (there may be more than one) from the document <head>.
Ex:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" />

Since 4:50 PM yesterday, I suddenly have had no more hits. Nothing. I tried looking at StatPress -- same thing. There are comment submittal problems that may be related.

I've tried deleting Wassup, including the plugin's complete uninstall. I'm baffled. Any help would be much appreciated!

"Direct hit" means a user typed your url on the address bar or Wassup isn't able to find a valid referer (search engine or link).
Think about a user clicks your blog's link from an email or a document.

Hello,

Right now in Wordpress the "WassUp" category on the left side of the admin panel is at the very bottom. I'd like to have it right under my "Dashboard" link so I don't have to scroll down to the bottom of my admin panel just to look at my blog stats. is this possible?

It is the one thing I dont quite get and the one thing I couldnt find in the user guide
What does the 'direct hit' mean?
I know whats up with the referer/keyword stuff, its the link and keyword the visitor used to get to the page specified, thats very cool btw.

But what about when that isnt there and instead there is 'direct hit'?
Thanksd

Thanks for the followup.

Just an FYI:
Wassup does not require PHP5 to run. It is likely that your ISP also fixed an error in the host server configuration when they switched you to PHP5.

I have this tiny bit problem stuck here. See, I have finished my RSS feed, tested it and all works perfectly, but when I remove an article from my feed it still showed in the reader. How do i get the reader to see the article is no longer part of the feed. Any ideas what's wrong?

Thanks for providing feedback about your efforts to get Wassup working.
Here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can take to isolate the problem:

Deactivate ALL plugins, then activate Wassup only. If this works, then there is a conflict with another plugin. There are known conflicts with page-based caching plugins.

Wait a couple minutes after you see the error, then reload the plugins page. If Wassup is now shown as "active", everything is fine. Your PC browser timed out (with an odd error) in the middle of Wassup's activation and the activation process continued, sight unseen. If this is the case, use a different browser or increase your browser timeout parameter. Wassup activation can take a long time on slow or busy servers, especially when tables get very large, and this can result in a timeout in some browsers.

Examine "wp-config.php" for problems: check for typos, or unusual characters, and white spaces at top or bottom of file; Comment out "WP_CACHE" constant, if it is set.

If none of these help, we will need more info about your setup to figure out what is causing the problem: Wordpress version, PHP version, MySQL version, ISP and hosted account type (Linux|Windows), and plugins installed.

> You can try a manual install of Wassup to see if that works:

> -download Wassup package to your PC
> -unzip Wassup on your PC (double-click file)
> -use "ftp" to upload the "wassup" folder to your wordpress "wp-content/plugins" directory on your host server
> -reload Wordpress plugins page in the browser
> -activate Wassup.

That's exactly what I did. The error occurs when I click activate, after all the files are in place. I checked permissions for all folders - all of them are 755 so no problem there. I have few other plugins and none had problems.

The access log shows the activation, but no other info:

Hmmm. The usual culprit behind 500-errors is a bad .htaccess file in your host server root directory, but there could also be other causes, such as: "unzip" could be failing or corrupting Wassup; Wordpress' "wp-content/plugins" directory could have incorrect owner permissions or is access protected; or your host server is incorrectly configured.

You can try a manual install of Wassup to see if that works:

-download Wassup package to your PC
-unzip Wassup on your PC (double-click file)
-use "ftp" to upload the "wassup" folder to your wordpress "wp-content/plugins" directory on your host server
-reload Wordpress plugins page in the browser
-activate Wassup.

Also, if you have access to your server logs, check that for the source of the error. If you need to change permissions, you should read the codex doc: http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions.

Good luck.

I believe the fix is to add "wassup_screen_res" to Firewall's Whitelist as a "Form Variable".

However, there are other, more serious problems with Wordpress Firewall that WassUp users should be aware of. For more info, read Wordpress support thread: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/345543?replies=7#post-1397776

My Wassup at present is showing nothing BUT spammers, so I'll be trying that.

One of the nifty things to integrate into Wassup is php geoip utilization for country info and if the city db is present state, etc. I have to run a report to add that after the fact at the moment. Or at least a hook to be called to do this when the data is added to the db. Actually, that is the best place but then I have to modify wassup. Not a huge deal but alas its data I need.

THe other reports are particular to my needs, maybe useful. Once I Have them as a WP Module, I can perhaps share.

Hi everyone,

Since I've installed the latest wassup version, it seems that I can no more "collapse chronology" or view the "dynamic" spy view, where the items refresh themselves.

It just seems all so static...and I think it has something to do with the jQuery 1.2.6 version being loaded by the plugin and the deregister_script('jquery').

After some investigating, I presume the problem lies in the fact that WordPress uses a jQuery() syntax, while Wassup uses the $() syntax. I also know there is a jQuery.noConflict() mode but I didn't find out if the true origine of the problem lies in the difference of calling a jQuery reference.

I hope some other users can shed their light on this, I'd be happy to know it's just MY wordpress install which is causing the problem, but I'm just wondering for another opinion on the jQuery thingy.

Thanks in advance,
Kim

I have the same problem.
I will donate to have it resolved as wassup and firewall are my 2 favourate plugins.

I don't think this happened in Wordpress 2.8.6
so it is since 2.9.1 I have noticed the incompatability between the 2.

I'm using the latest firewall 1.25, and that version works fine with everything else so far.

That would be great
