I cant figure out why the records are that different. The same user and ip is sometimes only recorded as visitor and sometimes as a registered user with the correct username shown.

I looked it up in the database and wassup writes the username in the database but it is not shown everytime. Same system, same user, same ip, same browser, sometimes shown correctly sometimes not.

Do you have any clou?

Hello,

I recently upgraded to 1.8.3, when I did this, recording stopped working. It looks like it is recording but data is only being placed into wassup_tmp and not the wassup table. The last entry in that table is from the day I did the upgrade.

I thought perhaps it was something else, so I removed wassup, redownloaded and let it do its upgrade process and no go. It is still not recording data.

Thoughts, help?

Best regards,
Edward

Hi Lisa,

I am glad you want to keep using WassUp in spite of it's database size.

I may be able to squeeze in the "2 week" summary option into v1.8, if it doesn't delay the release.

Thank you Helene,

I stopped using Wassup as a longterm stats tool, the server demands are just to high to keep data for a year.

However it is an excellent plugin to see day to day and week tot week stats. So is it possible to have auto database deletes and summary for the last:

2 weeks
3 weeks

Wassup 1.8 improves Wassup's performance, however, there is no significant change to the database structure itself. This improvement may allow you to retain data for longer than 1 month (3 months), without significant slowdowns, however, the database size will still be large.

You may need a faster, more optimized host server to use WassUp. If that's not possible, another plugin that uses a remotely-hosted stats service that does not affect your database may be more appropriate for you. Google Analytics and Wordpress.com Stats are good examples of these.

Will 1.8 fix the huge database size that Wassup created?

I had it running on a website with 150.000 visitors a month and the database was 750mb after 6 months. It was huge and really slowed down the server. I set it's recording to max 1 month, but 1 month is too short for me.

Hi again Helene,

What I eventually had to do was to create the wp_wassup table directly in a mySQL client. I made wassup.php echo $sql_createtable from line 1693, and ran the script by hand in a mySQL client.

Wassup is now collecting/storing/displaying data just as it was intended - and its interface seems much quicker that "StatPress Reloaded".

Thanks for your help,

Thanks for providing details about your Wordpress setup. It was very helpful.

It looks like WassUp is attempting to use the wrong table prefix for your wordpress database and can't create the tables required. I will attempt to duplicate your unusual table prefix on my test system to see if I can find and fix the bug.

The "cannot redeclare" errors are a separate issue caused by multiple attempts to install Wassup. Your uninstall/deactivation likely also failed due to the table prefix error and Wassup option settings have remained intact in your Wordpress options table. Those options need to be purged manually because any re-install of WassUp will reuse those setting, including the wrong table prefix.

To completely uninstall Wassup, first deactivate Wassup (yes, it activated despite the activation error message from Wordpress). Then, after deactivation finishes, click on "plugins" again (or reload the page) and double-check that Wassup is really deactivated. Then, delete the "wassup" folder completely from your "plugins" directory. Next, go to your phpMyAdmin manager (available from most ISP's), select your wordpress database and select wordpress "options" table (normally called "wp_options") in the left frame. Select "Browse" in the right frame and look for the row labeled "wassup_settings" under the "options_name" column and delete it (click the "X" at the beginning of the row). Be extra careful not to delete anything else as that can be disasterous.

You may have to wait for the next bug fix revision of WassUp before you can use Wassup with your configuration. Or, you can go ahead and edit Wassup plugin file to insert the correct table prefix that wassup needs to run in your setup. To do this, install a clean copy of Wassup, but DON'T activate it, then go to "Plugins"->"Editor", select wassup file "wassup.php", and edit line #63 in the "wassup_install()" function and change the "$table_name" variable declaration to:

$table_name = "marketme_wrdp1". "wassup";

Then activate Wassup. Good luck!.

FYI. For security reasons, you should not publish your Wordpress absolute path in these forums, even those in error messages. Next time, remove the beginning part of the path and only show the section after and including "/wp-content/". Michele, if you read this, please truncate the full path in this thread. Thanks.

NOTE to others reading these instructions: Don't attempt these changes! It is specific to this one case only. If you want to uninstall WassUp, go to WassUp->Options, select the "Uninstall" tab, Save, and then deactivate Wassup. That is the correct way to completely uninstall Wassup.

Hi there Helene,

My hosting is Apache 2.0.63, running PHP 5.2.8 (safe mode OFF) and mySQL 5.1.34-log.

I can't think of anything unusual about my WP install - WP source is in /WPDir and home directory is / (I'm using WP as a CMS).

One thing is that my WP database has a prefix - instead of wrdp1 it's called marketme_wrdp1, but that's recorded in wp-config as usual.

The issue seems to arise at install - when I try to activate I get

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare wassup_install() (previously declared in /home2/marketme/public_html/WPBlog/wp-content/plugins/wassup/wassup.php:59) in /home2/marketme/public_html/WPBlog/wp-content/plugins/wassup/wassup.php on line 194

The bizarre thing is that line 194 is the closing bracket for wassup_install(); it has a curly brace and a comment. There is no attempt to declare a new function (that said, the error trace might be off).

If I simply plough on after this error, Wassup appears as activated in the plugin set, but no mySQL tables are generated in my Wordpress mySQL database during the Wassup install process. I can set all the parameters, but I get that message about the table wp_wassup not existing - which is good, because the table doesn't exist.

I notice that in a few places in in wassup.php that there are places where $wpdb->query() has been replaced by mysql_query(), as in

//$wpdb->query("DROP TABLE IF EXISTS $table_tmp_name"); //incorrectly causes an activation error in Wordpress

I couldn't see anything of that nature in wassup_install() though.

Cheers

GT

Thank you for reporting this problem. We will doublecheck for compatibility issues in Wordpress 2.8.5. To help us diagnose this problem, can you provide more info. about your server settings such as the host server type (Apache or IIS), MySQL version and engine, PHP version, and whether PHP is in safe mode. Also, is your Wordpress configuration unusual in any way?

Hi there,

I just installed WassUp (v 1.7.2.1); I am running WP 2.8.5.

When I installed WassUp I got a 'fatal error' message during pplugin activation. I ahd a look at this forum, and that error had been described in other forum messages,: the solution seemed to be to wait while something happened in the background, so I did that.

The plugin then appeared to be activated, but when I went to set the Option, the following text appeared in red:

IMPORTANT: WassUp table empty or does not exist. Click 'repair' button to rebuild it now ==> [repair]

However the [repair] text is not clickable and the mySQL tables still don't exist.

Is this an 'uninstall-reinstall' issue?

I'd like to see a way for Wassup to delay its writes to the database in order to reduce its impact on the site. Firestats has a way to toggle this on right from its administrative interface and OWA demonstrates a manual process for doing this.

Actually it's not possible to associate another database to WassUp, but I would like to implement this feature soon.

I'm happy it works! Yes I gave you a modified version which will be the next release (1.4.4).

Your WP tells you there is an upgrade because the version you are using now is 1.4.3a is different from the actual 1.4.3, please don't touch it before you see the 1.4.4 version available at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wassup/

Thank you for the report
