For now, this feature remains on our wishlist because implementing it would disrupt important WassUp functions such as spam detection and IP geolocation.

It would require more user requests to give it enough of a priority bump to be included in the next revision.

i used the wassup-plugin for 4 WordPress-Websites and i like it as it is.
Except of the recording of IP's.

Is this idea (not to record IP's) still on a waiting list?
because of the government regulation, i need to deactivate the plugin for all sites now, not to get into any trouble (its business-websites).

Please implement this possibility not to record the IP address, cause the plugin itself is pretty good. And a mail to google, not to record IP's would be useless to switch to their analytics-tool ;)

Plarris,
Currently, WassUp cannot obscure IP's because it has several functions that depend on the IP address.

We plan to add this capability in a future release, but for now you must purge Wassup records regularly (automatic delete in wassup-options) to comply with your locale's legal requirements or use a different stats plugin.

Deeve, I agree, I use another source to check and find that IPs are often misidentified:

This company offers a free database, which one can install on one's server

http://www.trackipaddresses.com/database/#demo

I would surely love to know, how I could edit the wassup plugin to use such a database loaded locally on my server...

Hi,

I'm getting php errors when entries are added to wp_wassup_tmp, indicating that the data is too long for column 'ip'. This happens when an IPv6 address is added that is longer than 35 characters.

I have manually changed the ip column length to 46 (on both wp_wassup_tmp and wp_wassup).
Is there anything else that needs to be changed ?

Perhaps this modif can be built into the next version/update ?

I know you guys must have a million other things to do, but thought to request better IP recognition in future releases as I currently have to double check IPs here:

Nope. Nothing wrong with accessing your own data.
The timestamp value for 24 hours ago is
time()-24*60*60
. If you set a variable in PHP
$yesterday=time()-24*60*60;
you can use it to build your Mysql query.
ex:
$query = "SELECT...WHERE...AND timestamp >$yesterday";

If you are working directly in MySql, the syntax is:

SELECT...WHERE...AND timestamp>(UNIX_TIMESTAMP()-24*60*60);

There are some timezone issues that I am ignoring here, but I will leave it up to you to add or subtract more seconds from "unix_timestamp()" to get exactly 24 hours worth of data.

Good luck with your banning effort. I found it to be a lot of hard work for little gain, myself. Spammers learned years ago to quickly rotate their IP addresses and domains to get around IP and domain blocking.

Might I suggest that in addition to WP-Ban, you add an anti-spam plugin like Akismet, add a security question or captcha to your comments via a comment or contact plugin, and possibly install another gatekeeper plugin like Bad Behavior that uses a more heuristic method to find and block spammers before they get to your blog. This "triple-block" method is very effective on my own site.

Why was my previous account was deleted for no reason?

I just need to know how to get date from wassup table.

All i am trying to achieve is, make a query to MY OWN sql database and get the count of pagevisits of some visitor. The purpose is to ban abuser after looking for entry in http://www.projecthoneypot.org/. Whats wrong in that?

Anyways, so far i have this query that will tell me number of hits by certain IP.

SELECT count(timestamp) from wp_wassup where ip="XYZ";

I just need to add condition that will specify to get only TODAYS hits.

Hi, I have lots of spammers on my site and I am using wp-ban plugin to ban them all individually. For this, i need to know the IP of spammers which wassup already tracks.

Now the problem is I dont know how to get all IP addresses of some date. I see the column timestamp in wassup table structure, but not sure how it is calculated.

I would be great if somebody would give me a SQL query to get all visitors IP addresses of some date X, or atleast todays visitors.

Thanks,

Perhaps this has been covered here, but I have an idea that would help me immensely. Is it possible that on the next version rather than having the ability to exclude logging by IP address, you enable the user to just not have logging based on whether the user is logged in or not?

My IP is dynamic and changes every other day so I am forced to exclude my own IP every other day. It can be done, but it is tedious. It seems if you were simply able to add a feature that said "exclude logging from logged-in users" and specify the login names it would solve this problem that I'm sure many others are facing?

Just a thought

Hi - If users log in from the same IP it seems to show them as whatever the initial login was. Is there a way to differentiate based on logins and not ip? Right now this site is being used as an intranet - of sorts- and the admins want to see which user logs in to the resources - and they are mostly coming from one IP.

Hi there,

When I first installed WassUp several versions ago (and it's fantastic software, btw), the vast majority of my guests were logged with their hostname. That is to say, the actual name of the server they were visiting from (nc.rr.com or whatnot). More recently and after some upgrades, the vast majority are logged only by their IP addresses. A scant few still show server names, but most are just IP numbers. Is there any way to get WassUp to show me the server names of my visitors, or is there a utility better suited to that task?

thanks
Michael

hc on "Support for Maxmind GeoIP database"

Hi!

I'd love to see support for the Maxmind GeoIP ip<->location database.
All information required can be found here: http://www.maxmind.com/app/php

One note though! When using the Apache mod_geoip module (which should be supported along side the "pure php" library provided by Maxmind) they give this example on their page:

$country_code = apache_note("GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE");
$country_name = apache_note("GEOIP_COUNTRY_NAME");

This will *only* work when PHP is running via mod_php - if you consider implementing this, *please* check for the environment variables used when running PHP via FastCGI or as regular CGI. It looks like this (possibly a CITY variable will also be available in some scenarios):

$_ENV["GEOIP_CONTINENT_CODE"] (EU)
$_ENV["GEOIP_COUNTRY_CODE"] (DK)
$_ENV["GEOIP_COUNTRY_NAME"] (Denmark)

I've also noticed the same variables in the $_SERVER array, but I'm not sure which is the "correct" one to use.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
