   Hi Michele,

   I have a strange problem in Wassup. Today, my "top ten" list stopped working. The thickbox contents is simply blank. I don't even get the column titles.

   I am not sure if this is linked, but earlier today my site got hit with a concerted spam flood/hacking attempt from multiple addresses that brought my site down for 5-10 minutes. Afterwards, I had about 80 new comment spams and Wassup detail list now shows an almost 15% spam percentile (up from 5%). Wassup detail screen works, the options screen works, but the "top ten" doesn't.

   I am investigating whether this a database corruption problem triggered by the spam flood, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention, in case you have any insights.

   I had the same issue some time ago, it's quite strange and I think it's spam related too.
   Unfortunately it didn't happen any more, I'm waiting to check it

   It's not a database corruption problem after all and probably not even a spam problem. I completely uninstalled Wassup including dropping the "wp_wassup" table, then did a clean install and the problem persists.

   Then, when I tried to look at a raw record, all I got was a blank thickbox window. I did a little more testing and learned that the problem is more widespread than I first thought. Not only does "Top Ten" not work, neither does "Show raw table" and "Spy Visitor". It looks like all functions associated with the "action.php" module has completely stopped working on my site.

   Since I am not getting any error messages from WassUp, this is a tough issue to solve. I downgraded WassUp to 1.4.7-no topTen, downgraded to 1.4.5-still nothing. Then, I checked for possible compatibility issues between WassUp and Wordpress 2.2.3, PHP4, and MySQL 4.0.2, and found none. I looked at the allocated memory for PHP and 64MB seems more than adequate. I am now looking into whether it's a PHP execution timeout issue. Wassup's TopTen MySQL query might take longer than the default 30s because of inadequate indexing . I will also check if MySQL has it's own timeout or memory allocation issues as well. I am also wondering if this could be a problem with thickbox itself or thickbox/jquery1.2.2, but this is not likely because the "Spam" thickbox works fine.

   If you have any suggestions about other possible causes that I can look into, please let me know.

   I have narrowed down the problem to the upgrade to PHP 5.2.5 that my ISP did on March 3rd. There seems to be something really wonky in the settings of this latest PHP version.

   I still have not found out why "action.php" has stopped working, but I did find that the PHP function, "session_save_path()" appears to now set session.save_path to NULL instead of returning the current "save_path" value like it is supposed to with no arguments. This may explain why some previous WassUp users are suddenly having "save_path" issues in WassUp.

   Hi Michele,

   I saw the reported problems with "top ten" from other Wassup users and I thought I would make a suggestion based on my similar experience.

   As you know, I was able to get "top ten" working on my site by adding the no-cache header in "action.php". Strangely, it actually might have been the extra "\n" newline after the header that triggered the "top ten" to work again, not the "header" itself. That newline is in my development version but missing from Wassup 1.5. Perhaps that is what is needed to trigger an output for ajax calls to PHP 5.2.5.

   Some browsers may continue to cache ajax requests even with a no-cache header, so in addition to adding a newline after "action.php" header, I would suggest changing the header itself to be more aggressive in enforcing no-cache. Here's a sample PHP code:

   //force browser to disable caching to make action.php work as an ajax request
   header("Expires: Fri, 22 Jun 2007 05:00:00 GMT"); // Date in the past
   header('Last-Modified: ' . gmdate('D, d M Y H:i:s') . ' GMT'); // always modified

   I'm receiving this problem when I click on the Top Ten link in the visitor Details.

   Fatal error: Call to undefined function __() in D:\Inetpub\Webs\djproducts.com\blog\wp-content\plugins\wassup\lib\action.php on line 22

   How can I fix this problem?

   Thanks Helene,

   the additional newline also fixed it on my site. I also inserted the additional cache control headers suggested but disabled them again because I had the impression that they slow down the stats rendering (because of reloading everything again?) and I did not have any problems with caching (I tested only on FF 3b5, though).

     Your error is caused by a minor bug in Wassup's "action.php" error reporting. That will be fixed easily in the next update. What's troubling though, is that "action.php" was trying to tell you that it can't find the file, "wp-config.php". Is it possible that you have a non-standard Wordpress installation?

     Thanks for confirming the newline's effect on the "top ten". Michele probably thought I was nuts :-).

     Adding the "nocache" headers wouldn't cause any problem with Wassup stats. That is collected only with user hits and is not impacted by admin functions that don't lockdown the stats database table. As it is, "action.php" may not need to disable browser caching, but that is one possible reason why "top ten" stopped working...that and some ajax/PHP 5.2.5 issue that is still unknown.
